If you have a little Paw Patrol fan in your life (aka any child between the ages of 1 and 4!) then Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure needs to be on your family’s to-do list. My husband and I recently took Lennon (2.5 years old) to the Sony Centre for Performing Arts in Toronto to see the show. This was his first time ever seeing a live theatre performance and it was the perfect introduction. More dates in Peterborough, Kingston and Ottawa have been announced, so if you live in Quinte, or anywhere in Southeastern Ontario, there are still plenty of opportunities to catch the show!
What to Expect
Paw Patrol Live! is incredibly toddler friendly. The entire show is 1.5 hours long from start to finish and that includes a 15 minute intermission in the middle. We found that the intermission came at just the right moment as Lennon was just ready for a break.
The pups are brought to life by high energy actors in life-size costumes. The set is bright and colourful. And the songs are just as catchy as the Paw Patrol theme song that we all know and love (ok, maybe not so much love after the 700th time that you hear it, but you know what I mean ;)).
The plot is mostly played out through musical numbers, with very little down time where actors are just talking. There are also plenty of interactive moments throughout the show, including opportunities for the kids to yell, laugh & get up and dance their wiggles out! The result? The show easily keeps toddlers and preschoolers interested and entertained from start to finish.
Even before & after the show and at the intermission, the experience was very toddler friendly. The concession stands were selling kid-friendly snacks including popcorn and juice boxes. There were opportunities to get a photo with a Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure backdrop (though I warn you it was very expensive – $25!!). There are also stands selling lots of Paw Patrol toys, t-shirts and other paraphernalia.
Where to Sit
If you are wondering where to sit, I would suggest trying to sit near ground-level if possible. We sat up in the Mezzanine so we were looking down on the stage from above. Our seats were good as we had a very clear view of everything that was happening, but we were able to see a lot more of the actors inside of the pup costumes than we would have if we were sitting on the ground level. It didn’t seem to bother Lennon. I’m not sure that he even noticed the actors inside the costumes because he was so excited to see the pups. But, if you are able to get seats closer to ground level it might make for a more ‘realistic’ experience since you won’t be able to see as much of the actors.
If you want to kick the experience up a notch, there is a VIP (Very Important Pup) package, which also includes premium seats, a souvenir and a meet and greet with Ryder and two of the pups after the show.
What to Bring
Our only complaint was that Lennon found it very loud. It certainly didn’t bother every kid in the crowd, but if you have a little one who tends to be sensitive to noise, it is worth bringing a head-set (like this one) to block some of it out. We left a couple of minutes early because Lennon was overwhelmed with the noise by the end. Lesson-learned for us to bring headphones next time!
Overall, I highly recommend Paw Patrol Live! The Great Pirate Adventure for families with toddlers and preschoolers. It was an amazing experience for Lennon. And my husband and I loved seeing him so excited about the show. There is nothing better as a parent than seeing the magic through your little one’s eyes 🙂
